Yes, to me, not having gravity through rotation on a spacecraft is a non-starter.

In the recent TV series "Away", the ship that travels to Mars is designed to extend two habitats, far enough from the center of mass so that the entire vehicle can rotate and provide gravity. I think we need a design like that - otherwise, those who arrive at Mars will begin the real mission when they arrive physically weakened and perhaps even ill.
