What _DID_ they know? If they graduated, they must know something... What was it?

Coding is pretty simple. I remember memorizing the syntax of BASIC on a Saturday when I was 16 and the following Monday I wrote a program. If someone can code, that does not impress me. What impresses me is if they can analyze a problem and define a good design. Coding is secondary.

But if someone has a degree is computer science and cannot define a sort algorithm (I said define - not code), that would give me pause.

Certainly what you describe Amrit is cause for pause. I am just wondering what these folks knew, even if it was not enough to warrant hiring.
