I would not have said "There is no strict hierarchy but rather decentralized teamwork"
- rather, I would have said, "People with authority tend to empower others to solve problems, and people are expected to reach 'out of their lane to do it."
As David Marquet explains in his book Turn the Ship Around, he was still commander of the sub, but he (1) taught people how to "think out loud" and solve problems, and he gave them enough autonomy to be able to work that way.
