This is a good point. It is largely a problem in social sciences, which are mostly empirical, and which use models that are very suppositional.

Still, even in physics, we now know that our core model is superficial. No one knows what the "true" model is. There is a kind of crisis happening right now. It is not that some people believe one thing and others another: it is that the physics community is collectively stumped.
