There are A LOT of problems with Scrum. These are some of them.
The role of Scrum Master has radically changed at least eight times. Recently the Scrum Master was described as a "servant leader", but servant leadership is only one "mode" that an effective leader uses.
In the book Accelerate, Nicole Forsgren explains her research, in which she found that the most effective teams had _transformational_ leaders, not servant leaders.
Also, leader who have responsibility of accountability need to have authority. That does not mean that they use it all the time. In fact, effective leaders use authority sparingly. But they need to have it, because research shows that effective leaders are decisive - they don't let issues languish.
Instead of people parsing the Scrum Guide for wisdom that isn't there, I would recommend that they read about leadership, decision making, behavioral psychology, and other topics that actually inform us, based on research, of how people are effective in groups.
