“the experiment of democracy has been proven a failure”

The US Federal government was not supposed to be a democracy — and for good reason. By shifting power from the states (“state” means “nation”) to the Federal government, we have destroyed a central element on which its success hinged. We were supposed to be more like the European Union is today.

Governments usually become corrupt and dominated by special interests. The founders knew that. By having a federation of nations (states) we had some opportunity for some of them to be less corrupt. Now that we are all under the thumb of Washington, we have one choice: Washington. It is not a surprise that it is corrupt and that we all hate it.

And yes, the Democratic party is just as bad as the Republican party. We were warned — also by the founders — that parties were the greatest risk to our “experiment”. The two party system has created a Comcast and Verizon of sorts, each taking turns undoing the other, caring only about their market share (whether they win in Washington) — and not caring one tiny bit about us.

As long as we have a system that enables these two parties to maintain their stranglehold on our national government, we will never have — even for a brief while — a government that represents what we (the voters) want.

And we need to stop looking to Washington for solutions to our problems. States are more accessible, and if one state is too corrupt, it is often reasonable to move to the next one over.

I say, let’s de-fund Washington, and shift most government back to the state level; and let’s support rank choice voting initiatives like this one so that we can dethrone the two parties.
