That is true. But we are getting a lot closer. And some neural architectures were developed to mimic brain regions. E.g. the convolutional architectures that have been so successful in AI vision were modeled after the visual cortex of the brain.

The brain is still a great mystery in many ways. We can map networks that activate during different kinds of thought (e.g. the default mode network and the executive network), and it is clear that those networks link different brain regions - regions that have different architectures, kind of like linking AI systems that have different architecture. That cross-linked meta architecture is a mystery still.
