People vary in this regard.

Yesterday my wife and I were at a air show and we had a conversation with the owner of a sea plane that I was admiring. My wife asked the owner - a woman - how she got into flying. She said that when she was young, her boyfriend suggested it. She took the advice, liked it, and then became an airline pilot. She is retired now, and loved flying.

So suggestions from boyfriends can be very well received by some people.

It depends on the person.

I think that the men who are making suggestions to you are young, and have not learned that before making a suggestion, first _ask_ what is important to the person. Find out if they would be interested in advice, and what kind - or not.

That's something you learn as you get older.

Also, this is not just a man/woman thing. It is a people thing. But then again, men are taught that they are supposed to be experts on bringing in the money, and that they must take care of their girlfriend/wife. That's why so many men are giving you advice - society has been telling them to, plus they are young and don't know to ask first.
