One nuance is that while Intelligent Design is a _theory_ (per the English language), it is not a _scientific_ theory, which has a much narrower meaning.

I think that a lot of scientists suspect that there is something greater to the Universe than we can see. It sure seems like there is some kind of intention behind it.

The main problem with Intelligent Design is that it provides an _answer_, in the form of "God". The reality is that _if_ there is intention in the Universe, then we have no clue what form it takes. And the answer is not found in thousand-year old books. It is a mystery - one we might never solve. Science does not have the answer, nor do the Creationists. (Theoretical physics must postulate the rules of the "Standard Model" - no one knows why those rules are there, and the model itself is known to be incomplete and only describe observation - not "reality". The "reality" is currently described by fields and we have no clue what those are.)

But it is a crime to teach children that the tall tales in old books are literally true. Instead, we should teach them about the mystery, and its magnificence.
