Older people generally have a much higher EQ. If you encounter an older person who is a continuous learner, they are far better than they were when they were younger: so looking for the continuous learners are the key.

Also, there is a cultural problem among younger programmers: the culture of coding - rather than designing. Great code is not created by coding: it is created by designing and then coding. We have lost the culture of software design.
