Kind of like when Obama could not get anything done either — because the Republicans undertook to block everything he proposed from day one.
That’s the new norm: each party blocks the other, instead of trying to actually do things.
We read in the NY Times, Washington Post, Guardian and others about how Pelosi showed how strong she is, standing up to Trump, when in fact all she did was block something. It proved that this is all just politics. Pelosi did not care that Federal workers had no income — all that mattered was blocking Trump. She showed herself to be no better than the worst of them.
The Democrats and Republicans are both poisoning our country today. We need to change the system, to unlock the stranglehold that those two parties have on us. Proposals such as rank choice voting are needed. That would enable third parties to become viable choices: one would not have to forgo voting for one’s first choice out of fear that the vote would help to elect one’s least favorite candidate.
I think ideally we need a parliamentary system, in which a ruling coalition must be formed. The top parties must be forced to work together. Today they spend all their time trying to take power from each other and block each other.
