It is true. I am a consultant, and I am in the so-called 1% income wise, but in my part of the country, my income is pretty average — an average single family house costs a million dollars around here. And because one has to be in the 1% to just live around here, being taxed as if one is rich is really not fair. If I had to pay oppressive taxes, I would indeed do less consulting — I would simply work less, because what is the point if the government is going to take it all?

And as the author says, I am a working person. I don’t have millions in the bank, or offshore accounts. I am not able to shelter my income the way that true rich people do. Raising my taxes would merely hurt me, and prevent me from being able to retire.
