It is hard to admire people who don’t have to work for a living, but who can afford to sit around “looking for opportunities”, and then have the spare money to invest in everything that might turn out; and then when something does turn out, be lauded for “being a smart investor”.

Indeed, the twins’ success if a fine example of what AOC is talking about when she says that billionaires are a failure of our economic system.

In contrast, there are billionaires who I am glad are billionaires: Elon Musk, Bill & Melinda Gates, and Richard Branson have all made it their mission to use their money to do great things — inspired things — to make the world a better place. I want people like that, because government can’t do those things — government is not inspired and cannot do great things: it can only do humdrum things. Just look at the Apollo program and how government flubbed that, investing so much to put us on the moon, only to them abandon it, and let all of that technology decay.

We need inspired people who have resources; but we don’t need gluttonous narcissists who think that the best use of their money is merely to make more money, and we should not be praising them.
