Indeed. And the fact that Scrum is often viewed in these ways demonstrates how much like a religion it is. It has all the hallmarks:
1. There is a sacred text that is considered to be perfect and true a priori (the Scrum Guide). I.e., it is accepted on faith.
2. One must follow Scrum to the letter (the Guide says that if one does not follow it precisely, then one is not doing Scrum).
3. The adherents proselytize Scrum - usually in a very dogmatic way.
4. If someone challenges Scrum, they are told that "they have not given it a chance", or "they do not yet understand it" - reminiscent of "you are simply not yet enlightened".
I know from broad and long experience that one can have extremely successful teams without doing anything like Scrum, so my question is, why does anyone pay attention to it? You don't need it!
