In the last few months, I have been called an "old white guy" by three separate women in an attempt to silence me. In each case, were were not discussing gender issues or feminist issues - we were discussing something else, and I had been polite.
Women are just people, so this is not a problem "with women". It is a symptom of the cultural movement to try to speak up about women's issues, and many women have pointed out that "old white men" seem to be making societal decisions that affect women. That is a valid and important fact. But that fact can be misused as permission to categorize all "old white men".
Calling someone an "old white man" for the purpose of silencing them is very offensive. And by the way, at 65 I might be old chronologically, but I can out-run most 20 year olds, and I seem to still have all of my mental acuity. So the aspersion is doubly offensive to me.
