I want to help others, but when one is 63 years old, and unable to retire, one’s focus must shift to oneself.

I am simply skeptical of any US Federal level program. Finland is one thing: the US is another entirely. The US Federal government is a corrupt candy store for special interests. I cannot imagine than any new Federal program would be beneficial. At this point I would like to see the Federal government reduced to the bare minimum and have it simply leave me alone and stop taking 40% of my gross income — yes, 40% when you add in the “self-employment tax”. If they took less of my income then I could have saved enough for retirement!

So here is an alternative to basic income: reduce the size and scope of what the Federal government does.
