I think that distinguishing between gender and sex - two things that used to be synonymous - has created enormous confusion.

And I think that it is a regressive idea - to put a label on someone's mind - that someone is "really male" or "really female" in their mind. Such labels are unnecessary for most people. The only people who need such a label is those who have a compulsion to choose a label. Most people do not. The vast majority of people see their sex and gender as synonymous, and that it is only their reproductive biology and nothing more.

I think we are confusing young people, and creating a-lot of turmoil and issues that are unnecessary.

Some people feel a need to claim a separate gender. That is their situation, and it is very real for them. They have a condition, and should be treated as anyone. Most people have one kind of condition or another. I do - I compulsively pick my fingers. So what. It is harmless. Having a gender identity compulsion is harmless. People need to be understanding, and not mistreat those who have that condition. People need education about it. But it makes no sense to create the confusion that we now have about what "gender" is. It has created a political wedge issue, and is creating a-lot of conflict that is not needed.
