“I have a limit for the bullshit male managers inflict upon female employees. I’m not alone. Most women have more than one cringe-worthy story…”
You say “men” — implying “all men” — and “most women”. Please don’t generalize like that. Men are not all the same. I certainly have never done the things you list, and many of the commenters here claim to not do those things either. As you say at the end, “Yet we can’t do it alone. We also need men on our side…” Many men are supportive of what you are saying — I would dare say most are.
You have identified real problems and actual behavioral patterns to watch for. It would be more powerful to make it clear that you are not stereotyping all men. We are not the enemy. People in positions of power over others — whether they be male or female — often abuse it, knowingly or not. Women can be as abusive, aggressive, and back-stabbing as men, yet I would not write an article implying that “women” are like that — since most are not.
For example, you wrote, “We don’t feature men on the covers of magazines which ask how they manage to have it all.” Yet, I would guess that most of the women’s magazine editors are women! — Anna Wintour come to mind? I myself would shudder to work for Ms. Wintour. It is often they who are promoting and perpetuating the poisonous cultural values that you describe.
We need people like you calling out these things. I just wanted to point out that the problem is more complex than labeling “men” as the cause.
