I agree. But I would go farther.

The "standup" practice assumes that everyone needs to update everyone else every day.

That is not the case.

People should update others as soon as there is an update - no sooner and no later.

And they should update those who have a need to know, and no one else.

Contrary to Scrum dogma, not everyone is working on a "sprint goal". In most cases, there are parallel streams of work that will converge at various points. There are many goals, and most people are involved in only one of them at a time.
