Hi Paul. You are right about coral, but for most other species, mass extinction is not due to climate change. It is due to over-population, which results in cutting down forests to create farmland, cities and roads. Coral are an exception, and hopefully coral will rebound eventually. I am more concerned about ocean anoxia and acidification due to agricultural runoff.

But please remember that I am not denying climate change or that it is problematic. I just think that it is overblown, and that there are other issues that are of greater concern.

Yes, capitalism is a very damaging economic system. It is the system that has existed since humans first created tribes: those who can get power and grab resources hold onto those things. It is time to change it. The question is, to what? Socialism does not work at scale. The US is not a little culturally homogeneous European country.

We need more choices than the two extremes of capitalism and socialism. I have been disappointed with the lack of imagination that people seem to have on this issue. Also, the US political system is not capitalist — capitalism is enshrined only in our corporate law. We could change it without touching our Constitution. Organizations such as co-ops exist. I think that is a better model than the corporation.
