Indeed, regional culture has a big impact on how people talk. That's why, when on the Internet, I try to be very polite. Especially when talking to women, because they often receive a lot of online abuse from a small fraction of very nasty people.

I was once trading thoughts with a fellow on Slashdot.org, and he called me stupid and such, and I told him that it was rude, and he said something like "Where I come from (an eastern European country - I forget which) you _have_ to talk that way, or no one takes you seriously.
