Hi James. Are you asking how the idea of creating a magnetic field on Mars would work?
That idea is my own. But I have a degree in physics and in nuclear engineering, and I think that it would work. I have not done calculations on it though.
I like the idea of storing government cheese! LOL
But I have given up on the government. NASA did a great job under Werner von Braun and Kennedy's madate in creating a fantastic system for getting to the Moon, but government has shown that it does not have the sustainable vision to create a permanent presence on the Moon or Mars.
I think we need "commercial cheese" if we hope to settle those places.
Fortunately, there is some commerical cheese. Seeing the cheese requires some vision, because it only becomes cheese if we drastically lower the cost of space travel (which SpaceX is doing, to a point): https://www.asterank.com/
I think we will need fusion propulsion, which is being worked on: https://www.psatellite.com/technology/fusion/
And if we have advances in AI and robotics, so that there can be autonomous space factories that make things close to where the resources are, then it all starts to come together. One might imaging an economy on Mars, with products made in orbiting factories, sending things down via landers.
That's a big vision. I don't know if it is practical, but I think it is. The problem is that there is a big set of steps to get to it.
