The Agile community tends to equate "leaders" with "hierarchical jerks". That's a mental limitation on their part. Amazing companies have amazing leaders. Leaders are the secret sauce. Leaders generate the culture, through their own actions.

Apple would not have become Apple without Steve Jobs.

SpaceX would not have become SpaceX without Elon Musk.

VISA would not have become VISA without Dee Hock.

Whole Foods would not have become Whole Foods without John Mackey.

Amazon would not have become Amazon without Jeff Bezos.

And so on.

And none of those people are pure servant leaders. They have servant leaders traits, but they are also all decisive individuals.

Effective leaders have good judgment about when to decide, and when to step back and let others decide. And they know that time is important, and drive progress on the critical path.
