Scrum is superfluous. I have been on fantastically successful teams that did nothing like Scrum. And indeed if I were to set up some teams I would not start with Scrum.
But the worst thing about Scrum is that it distracts people from what matters. They end up obsessing over the various Scrum events, but those things are actually not important. What matters far more is the kinds of leadership that are present within and around the teams.
And the issues are not usually within "the team". The blocking issues are usually _between_ the teams, or _around_ the teams.
Teams are easy. What's hard is the ecosystem.
