Because she has singled out a category of people who I belong to, as if all members of that category have the behaviors that she describes.

I don't think it is just men who behave that way. And maybe the man, being older, felt that he was mentoring. Maybe he is that way with everyone younger than him.

People often read things into behavior that are not there.
